Google to Change The SEO/Search Game with SearchWiki

As I went to Google to perform a search something struck me as different. New icons had appeared next to each of my search results. At first, thinking that I’d accidentally turned on an unwanted Firefox Plugin, it took me a few moments to realise that this was actually a change to the way Google will provide your search results.

Whilst you are logged in to a Google account there is a new feature named SearchWiki, where you now have the option to remove a listing from your results or promote it to the top of your page. If you own or run a website you were probably asking the same question as I was “Will SearchWiki have an effect on SEO and my websites ranking?”.

For the moment at least you can sit back and play around with this feature to your hearts content. Google has stated “The changes you make only affect your own searches.” Anything you do at the moment will only effect the way that you are provided your results. Having said that with so much user generated input on websites that they may never have fully reviewed before it’s hard to see that this won’t eventually play at ;east some factor in search engine rankings.

The obvious things that will stand in the way of this ever being a completely trustworthy way to generate website feedback is the huge opportunity for Spammers. Less than honest webmasters could potentially manipulate search results hugely in their favour and even launch campaigns to crush their opponents.

Another thing to think about if you use AdWords is the potential knock-on effects for your website. If you are not generating great quality content for your users or providing relevant information on your websites you could get knocked from a lot of people’s search results. There is nothing that I’m aware of to stop Google in future using this information to decide on the charges and position of your AdWords Campaigns. After all the ultimate goal of any search engine is to keep their results relevant and therefore profitable.

In conclusion as long as you are providing great value through your website this should not effect you too much and probably won’t in the future. It’s just something to be aware of and can always be used to filter your own search results as long as you have a Google Account. Below I’ve attached the video from the SearchWiki Post on Google’s Blog so that you can take a look for yourself.

Exploiting Twitter to Build Your Niche Marketing List

Social Media Marketing is big business and recently I’ve started looking a little deeper into it. Twitter is one tool that gets a lot of mention and I’ve been following a few of the big names in Internet Marketing. Nobody had really talked about exploiting Twitter to build your niche marketing list though, at least not openly.

At some point though, the exact story is lost to time, I discovered Warner Carter through Twitter. After a few days I was following him, joining his list, even adding him as a friend on Facebook. Now this is quite an achievement for somebody I hadn’t even heard of prior.

When he released an ebook about how to set up your Twitter to develop your online presence within a niche I knew I had to get it. Knowing he had managed to get me to follow him so quickly through Twitter and beyond I knew he must be onto something.

Today when I got his book I read it from start to finish. Inside were step by step methods to do everything he says and best of all, the methods inside are all free! A couple of the strategies have gone straight into my marketing mix. In fact the guide was so good, I decided to promote it on my blog. Now I’m not sure how long he plans on selling this guide but these are techniques that you can put into action today!

If you are even slightly interested in Twitter I highly recommend Reading More about exploiting Twitter to build your niche marketing list.

Is an Affiliate Marketing Online Program For You?

Often people will ask me how I’ve made money from my other blogs in the past. My response used to be ‘Affiliate Marketing’ and in a way it still is. The thing is I realised many people haven’t actually been exposed to Affiliate Marketing before and therefore are still none the wiser. If you are already doing this then this post is not for you. It is meant to be a quick introduction to those who may not have come across it before.

The Affiliate Marketing Process in a Nutshell

  1. Affiliate Marketer(You) introduces Customer to Product Sales Material
  2. Customer buys Product after being introduced by You
  3. You get paid a percentage of the purchase price.

Essentially you are advertising for the company to your existing customers, or in the case of a blog your existing readers. If these customers actually go on to purchase you are then rewarded for your effort. The main difference between this and most standard banner type adverts is that each potential customers actions are tracked so you only make money if somebody you refers makes a purchase.

Even though you only get paid when somebody buys something this is usually a better option that displaying adverts that pay for each click as you will generally earn a percentage of the sale rather than just a few cents for a click. This means you can make good money from just a few people visiting the website and making a purchase rather than requiring hundreds of people to click through an advert to make the same amount.

There are thousands of Affiliate Marketing Online Program options. You can promote for almost anyone from the small business owner who is selling a couple hundred online guides to the monster companies like Amazon selling Millions of different products every year.

Choosing an Affiliate Marketing Online Program

When deciding on which Affiliate Marketing Online Program is for you there are some things you will want to keep in mind:

  • Product is Relevant to your Market – You only make money when a sale is made, therefore the products you decide Must Be relevant to the people you deal with.
  • The Product Should be Excellent Quality - Not only will you want to keep good relations with these people that you are referring but you will want to keep Good Karma by only offering Great products. Even better if you actually use the products your are promoting as well.
  • Amount Per Sale -Though you shouldn’t base your decisions just because there is a good commission it is important to realize this; If you can only refer 10 people a week you will generally want to get high commissions to maximize the opportunity. Where as if you are referring thousands of people it won’t matter as much if you only make a dollar or two per sale.

To start, you will have to sign up with the company’s program. Often you will find links to do this at the bottom of commercial websites. Alternatively if you are looking more generally you can just search for something like “_________ Affiliate Program”, obviously filling in the blanks with your subject of choice. Depending on their methods they will give you information on how to register.

Once you are signed up with an Affiliate Program it is time to start promoting! The ways you can do this are only limited by your imagination. Well sometimes by restrictions the company sets as well. Things I have done in the past include:

  • Displaying Banner Adverts on your Site or Blog
  • Writing Articles that Link to the Product
  • Creating Info Products that Link to the Product
  • E-Mailing a list of past customers (not spamming)
  • Much More…

For further ideas you only have to think about things like forums and message boards to get the creative juices flowing. Promotion can be as passive or active as you decide.

So that pretty much sums up the Affiliate Marketing Online Program and how you can make it work for you. Hopefully this has answered any questions.
