Why Do People Use Hashtags on Facebook?

inappropriate hashtag Why Do People Use Hashtags on Facebook? If you’re on Twitter there is a good chance that you’re well aware of what a hashtag is  however for those of you who still aren’t sure: Hashtags are used to denote a certain topic of discussion. There are many sites that then track these hashtags for information discovery and discussion around the topic. The amount of activity surrounding a hashtag at any one time is also used to analyse currently trending topics around the web on social media ranking sites and media portals.

The main network that hashtags originate from is Twitter where its is heavily tied in with their search and trending systems but many other sites such as Google+ but not Facebook, so why do people use hashtags on Facebook? The main reason it appears on Facebook is because somebody is posting from a third party tool that posts to both Twitter & Facebook, they use an app that detects them on Facebook or simply because they don’t really have a grasp of how it works. However with tech culture and the #hashtag becoming more ingrained in our every day lives, many people also use them to link imply a link between their status and a topic or internet meme.

Don Draper Presents the New Facebook Timeline

There has been a lot of buzz recently about the changes that are slowly rolling out across Facebook and for good reason. I’ve been testing it all out through my developer account and it’s going to wildly change the way we all interact with the site.

Our profiles will become a scrapbook of our lives, online and off. The stream is becoming a kind of “match of the day” for our friends daily lifes. And in the new sidebar the most intense data stream seen yet of your friends and families goings on…

Whilst there are issues with it’s implementation in the short run, bugs that be need to be stamped out, and a lot of user shock and dismay to work through. None can sell it so well, and explain it’s true power, than the infamous Don Draper of 60s based ad show ‘Mad Men’.

Enjoy…

Earn Money for Sharing Videos With Your Friends on Facebook

If you want to get earn money, get free pizzas and more, simply by sharing videos on Facebook then BuzzSeed is for you. It’s an interesting new site that hooks you up with media agencies looking to spread things such as film trailers or festival maps around social networks and most importantly they are willing to pay!

Now bearing in mind this is a relatively new site, they only have a few offers at any one time but in the past month or so, I’ve already got two Dominos pizza vouchers, £10 cash and have a £25 “Clean Start” toiletries kit on the way all with just a few Facebook posts a month that took less than a minute each. They also hold regular competitions for members where you can will cool new gadgets and things such as iPads or laptops (a friend of mine recently even won 2 VIP tickets to Beach Break live festival in Wales!).

It’s an interesting system and a lot easier than some of the more basic paid survey sites which make you jump through seemingly endless hoops just to get a free chocolate bar or something. So if you are a student on summer break or even if you just have some spare time then BuzzSeed is a great way to pass a few minutes by getting first access to film trailers for films such as The Hangover 2 and earning yourself a few extra goodies along the way.
